Plug-in solar feeds energy from a small array of lightweight panels through a microinverter and into your home simply by plugging into a wall socket — reducing your pull from the grid and your electric bill, no professional installation or roof access required. It's popular in Europe, and only a few U.S. states allow it so far. What would it take to make plug-in solar available here in Washington? Come ask questions at our demo, brought to you by Third Act and the LFP Climate Hub.

Our quarterly Climate Conversations have moved to Sunday afternoons. This summer, we're looking at what an urban wildfire in the Seattle area might mean — fire season is longer and wider than it used to be, so how do we protect ourselves? Moderator Taryn Black leads a panel of three local experts. Learn, ask questions, explore fire-related organizations, and talk with neighbors over afternoon drinks and snacks. 

Sunday, October 26 · 4 pm · Third Place Commons 

With a grant from the American Geophysical Union, we're making local climate science accessible to all. We're gathering community-collected data — tree canopy, stream health, emissions, birds, salmon, and plants — onto interactive area maps, and installing a touch screen at the Hub mural in the Commons so anyone can explore patterns and change over time. Our first Story Map traces the history, biology, and restoration of native salmon in the McAleer and Lyon Creek watersheds, debuting alongside our Autumn Climate Conversation with a panel of salmon experts. Be there! 

Most Saturdays, year-round, 9 am–noon. A great way to enjoy the outdoors with neighbors, kids, and grandkids while making a real difference. Organized by involved neighbors — join when you can.

• Second Saturday — StreamKeepers stream monitoring: become a citizen scientist testing water quality and looking for critters in our local streams

We read nonfiction, fiction, poetry, and short stories on climate-related topics. New readers always welcome. Our August book is Fen, Bog and Swamp by Annie Proulx. Questions or want to join?
